Did she lose her memory? Then have it returned? How did msP react?
Emmet tells me P that she is a fool to hold onto the past. You can never go back. Why would he want to? The memory of her was the first to fade. He would have told her to move on. Why wouldn’t she?
He has bigger problems than her crush. He realises she is responsible, and blasts her. Her selfish quest has destroyed the ImpVerse.
She is distraught, then angry, then banished from his conscious - too little a battle?
What about Leon? He is charged with trying to save the ImpVerse and must help Fix and Jem lock up the ImpVerse again, using Emmet’s conscious.
They hit a snag though, as Ms Penumbra returns and managed to kill Emmet somehow. Her hate poisons him? Or she is able to confront him with her memories of him. Or does she return to the real with plans to tear it all down? To kill him? And get trapped there, set off her mind bomb, but Suunto does another, sending her into her trapped mind forever.
Leon is charged to save the ImpVerse. The consciousnesses are slipping from it. He can sense them. The jade rhino arrives, then slips from his grasp. Fix contacts him and tells him he feels a pull to somewhere else - The Abstract. Leon feels it too, growing stronger like gravity.
Emmet is ranting and thinking. Ms. Penumbra calls him by name and he turns to her. She does a loving touch and he cannot remember having someone touch him like that. He has existed so long without anyone touch him in that way. He has been alone.
He steps away and he asks who she is. Ms. Penumbra is confused. How could he not know? She tells him who she is, and he does not remember. He tells her he has been timeless and experienced all of humanity from his place as a God. He does not know if he has ever met her before. Ms. Penumbra is pissed. She tells him she did all of this for him. He is her lover. She has toiled for decades to free him. He looks confused. He has no recollection of her at all. Then he remembers something. He tells her that he thinks he does remember her, but that girl was dozens of lifetimes ago. She was a romance that started and ended so quickly that it was barely part of his life. She is angry. How could he not treasure him as much as she treasures him? He told her he was trapped behind the lock, and she said he was going to free him. He said he wanted to be locked away to prevent humanity from experiencing death. His conscious, stretched to a bubble that could hold all of humanity from death. He has harnessed Limbo and made it heaven. He has experienced so many lifetimes from so many perspectives and tasted so much of what humanity has to offer. He needs to get back and try and salvage the ImpVerse before the consciousnesses answer the call of The Abstract and drift away. He can already sense them leaving.
Leon thinks of Fix and tells him to make sure he concentrates on staying. Fix tells him that he can feel the pull of it and he wants to go. It is what Jem would want. He can feel his connection cutting off and he senses him turn. He tries to connect to the fabric, but it is slippery. He cannot feel it and he senses it slackening, unlike it was before.
Leon volunteers to fix it and Ms. Penumbra is brooding and silent. She has returned to her regular form, all twisted and old. There is an edge in her eyes that disturbs him - end of Ms. Penumbra bit.
Ms. Penumbra tells Emmet she is coming too. He tells her she can’t, as she is poison. He can sense her rage and the stain of her life. She centers her anger on him, is calm a moment, then asks him how she can help. Leon is hesitant, but they realise that this is going to take a bit more effort than they wanted.
Emmet opens the door again, but cannot move it. He feels the fabric shifting and The Abstract calling. Leon is used to it, so he can resist, but Emmet has been living with the tension forever. Ms. Penumbra is just focussed on Emmet. She appears to want to do anything she can to please him. She has returned to the girl she used to be for him, and he appears to be warming to her. He even gets a recollection of them working together, and he tells her that.
The door opens and he looks back on the threads wavering before him.
Ms. Penumbra kills him and wants to enter herself. She imagines the control she can attain if she is in charge. She will know everyone’s secrets and she will be able to find a way back to the ImpVerse. She will make sure of it.
Leon examines the tethers and notices that Emmet is enticed by The Abstract. Emmet goes close to the edge and reaches out for the first of the strands. Ms. Penumbra pushes him and he catapults past it and into The Abstract beyond.
Ms. Penumbra gets to kill him somehow… Forces him back to The Real without a body to inhabit? She pushes him to get taken by The Abstract? He tethers himself to her and Leon and he gathers the fabric of The Abstract once more. She embeds herself closely to him, then pushes him away to be dragged off by The Abstract. Leon tries to save him, but he finds himself stuck as well.
Emmet - killed by Ms. Penumbra, or dragged back to The Real with her? Then she will return? Is pulled away by The Abstract, leaving Ms. Penumbra and Leon alone with the lock? Ms. Penumbra abandons him, and she returns, leaving Leon to save himself? Not dramatic enough.
Leon panics. They need to return him to the lock. He says he cant return. Ms. Penumbra moment and she is pissed. They have to be able to return. He says the lock doesnt work that way. The fabric is his consicous stretched to form a bubble, like a balloon. They just started to let the air out.
Leon wants to fix it. Ms. Penumbra laughs at the irony - everyone dies now. So much for love, devotion and everlasting life. The only thing she wants now is to secure power.
She makes a deal to return to The Real and work the machine in exchange for being a God in the ImpVerse. She wants a direct line to him. He says it does not work like that. She says she will take whatever he can give her then. He says he cannot give her anything. He is just the binding on the fabric. She laughs and tells him to get in lock. She will return and secure it from The Real. That is the only place it can be secured from. Leon wants to return as well to help. She says no, but he is insists.
Leon returns in the tank. A team of scientists are there, examining the body of a man on the floor, and he is at a loss as to what to do. He knows he will be taken instantly. He sees Ms. Penumbra pointing to him and he knows he is in big trouble. There will be no escape for him. Ms. Penumbra smiles.
Leon returns the The ImpVerse. It is unstable and he feels the pull of The Abstract. There is nothing much he can do. The visage that is projected is starting to fade. Now complete, he is confronted by ImpCorp security in The ImpVerse near the clock tower. He cannot get any further. There is a momentary fade and he uses it to tear a hole in the fabric easily and get into the clock tower again. Emmet is there, and he is unable to enter the lock. He does not know what she is doing, but she appears to be preventing him from entering.
Worse - Leon is returned to The Real and Ms. Penumbra stays to help Emmet. He starts to find a way out, then realises that he cannot contact Fix anymore. He knows he has to find him. He loops in again to find The ImpVerse crumbling. Ms. Penumbra is the only one there - she has somehow disposed of Emmet. She is trying to wire herself into the lock, but is struggling.
Leon finds himself ripped away from the lock and he has to get back?
Emmet ridicules him and Ms. Penumbra. He tries to walk back through the door and cannot. He is trapped here. He tries to gather the tethers but cannot. He reaches out and can only feel The Abstract. It gets a grip on him and it starts to pull him through. Ms. Penumbra tries to save him? but he cannot be saved. The Abstract has wanted him for an eternity and with his bubble burst, it wants his conscious. Leon tries to grab him and pull him back, and he feels himself stretch to The Abstract. He feels the pull through him and he knows at that point that he must save the ImpVerse himself. Emmet tells him as much - he must do it if he to save them all. If Ms. Penumbra does it, she will infect them all with her poison.
Leon manages to return and Ms. Penumbra is already trying to enter the lock. Leon calls to her. She wants the power and will take it all. He tells her she cannot as she will infect the ImpVerse. She tells him she does not care. She will rule the ImpVerse and know everything about everyone there. She will not be put off.
Emmet vs Leon or Ms. Penumbra vs Leon or Leon vs Leon?
Maybe he fights Ms. Penumbra for control, only to then figure the Emmet cannot be the one to take control. It has to be him. He wants to make it for everyone?
Emmet is the one controlling the ImpVerse? Ms. Penumbra knows that and wants the control?
More Toiughts. Maybe she wants Emmet to be trapped in the ImpVerse. She wants Leon to take his place? All she needs to do is convince him.
TP Six ** End of TP - Leon realises that he has destroyed the ImpVerse and must try to save it. Ms. Penumbra wants all the power if she cannot have Emmet - or will she want to destroy it all? She wants to return to The Real and destroy the portal. Leon tries to hold her. So does Emmet, but she manages to slip back. He can feel it all failing. Emmet tries to enter the portal but is dragged through the fabric into The Abstract instead. Leon tries to get him, but he cannot hold him there. He floats in the fabric, all alone, watching it all fall apart. The fabric brushes him and he feels it tug at a memory. His memories were part of the connection. He connects the fabric to a memory and brings himself back to the ImpVerse. He reaches out to grab another fabric with another memory. He surrenders them, and they start to reform. Memory after memory, he watches them fade from him. He has not had the opportunity to do anything about them. He knows they are woven into the fabric again. He stands before the lock. Ms. Penumbra has returned and offers him everything to let her go with him, then resorts to threats. He can feel the threads pulling on him. He needs to tether it to the lock. He tries to enter the fabric, but realises that he still is too laden with memory. He gathers the memories of his mother, the ones that were just returned and cherished and they weave themselves into the lock.
Ms. Penumbra is trying to stop him - raging. She tells him she will return to The Real and destroy the machine. He will live isolated from The Real. He knows that is something he will have to deal with. At least the conscious already in The ImpVerse will live on, even if he will not in the way he thought he would. He will be alone and isolated. He enters the door and Ms. Penumbra rages. He tries to get a hold of Suunto, but he cannot make it through. No-one will know of his sacrifice. He tries to close the lock, but it still wont close. He knows there is only one thing left to do. He summons the Jade Rhino, who appears to him - his last connection to his past - and he says goodbye and fuses it to the lock, sealing himself in, and away from the The Real and The ImpVerse forever.
The portal door has become unstable. The threads whip wildly as if in a storm. Great chunks of the song have started to disappear. The fabric is falling apart.
THIS ONE MS P. - Ms. Penumbra, after a lifetime of wanting Emmet, finds out he does not remember her at all. He has left her to flounder while he moved on. He got over her so quickly and indulged in the lives of others, while she died every day without him. She is enraged. She starts to stain the ImpVerse with her rage. Emmet is absorbed by it and he struggles to isolate himself from her pain. He has spent so long connecting to humans, at such a deep level, he has forgotten how to protect himself. Her poison seeps into him. She strangles him, gives him a kiss, the uses her rage to push him through the door and through the fabric to The Abstract. The Abstract grabs hold of him and starts to draw him away.
Leon, struggling to comprehend what she has become, dives into the doorway before her, and tries to resuce Emmet, but the pull is too strong. Emmet tells him he must save the ImpVerse, or a billion souls will be lost. He glances back to the fabric just beyond his reach and knows that he has gone too far to return. The jade rhino returns, and pushes him back to the fabric. He clutches the fabric and he feels a memory surge to his mind, then reach for the fabric. He has a way to reconnect them, and then the lock itself.
*Leon needs to return here and there needs to be a clash - he needs to beat her by peeling away her layers perhaps. Or at least some ideological clash need to take place to heighten the tension.
- She needs to offer him everything to let her take control - the team, fix in a body, vast wealth. All he needs to do is help her get into the fabric.
- Leon knows that if she does, she will corrupt everything.
- She then starts to threaten the team. He falters, but she does not gain control. He knows they will have plans in place - they always do. He is not sure what will happen though when he does help fix the fabric. MS P. - Ms. Penumbra is already grabbing at the bric, but she does not know what she is doing. Her hate and rage infects the strands and the wither when she touches them, courtesy of their connection to Leon’s memories. She screams and vanishes from sight - she wants to return to The Real and destory the ImpVerse itself. She wants to end what has been created by Emmet and build it anew. If there is not ImpVerse, they will not be able to transition her. It will be murder. She can hold on for a while longer. It will not take them long to build it again. And when they do, she will transition and ensure her power will continue after her death. She can blame it all on Leon, who she will make sure dies in the vat on her return. Leon feels Ms. Penumbra try to disconnect him from The ImpVerse via his connection to the ooze. She has pulled him from The Real, but he senses it and severs his connection to The Real. His body will die without him, but he realises that there is no going back. SEE ‘SEQ TWO’ Leon opens the door to see Suunto. She has followed his trail, using the rats. The rats are mighty. Leon tells her to watch for Ms. Penumbra - they need to hide. She tells him not to worry about her. She always takes care of herself, and her own. She tries to convince him not to do what he she knows he is going to do. He tells her he has little choice. It is either him or the ImpVerse. She understands and tells him a few home truths and reflects on the natuer of memory and life. He says that from what he has gathered from Emmet, that he will be able to observe, but he will very much be alone. She laments at that. He should not be alone. He smiles and says he always thought he was, but realises that he has never been alone. He continues to layer the ImpVerse fabric with his memories. He does not want them to go, but he cannot help them. They are feeding from him and he traces their passing, slowly removing his newfound awareness of his sense of self and belonging. Things that made sense no longer do. He just knows who he is, but not why he is. Suunto watches silently as the door closes on him, respecting his decision. Leon tries to close the lock, but he cannot. He cannot believe he has to give more. The fabric has resealed, but it is tenuous. He needs to bond it all with the lock. He summons the memories of his mother, including his cherished one that started it all, and puts it into the lock. It is still not enough. He looks to Suunto and says sorry to her, and fuses the lock with all that he knows about the team. The lock closes, but does not seal sufficiently. He realises there is one more thing that he can use - the Jade Rhino. He
SEQ TWO
Ms. Penumbra pulls Leon from the ooze in an attempt to break his connection. She injects him with a stimulant to return him, just so she can kill him, but she realises that he has managed to disconnect himself already. She stabs his body repeatedly and rages. She will have to bring it all down the hard way to stop him from becoming The ImpVerse. It is her place. The transition team enter the room. It is then that she notices Rankin is not there, and the scientist bays are empty. She must have been betrayed by the scientist she thought to blackmail. It is what compassion gets her. She curses herself for that.
She senses her impending capture and transition and takes a moment. She needs to trigger the mind bomb before she transitions. She climbs from a bloody Leon and throws the knife to the ground and says the phrase that will trigger her mind bomb. It does not work. Instead, Suunto appears as a memory. She tells her that she warned her of her reckoning. She threatened her with something she wished to forget and hurt Leon, over and over. Leon is now paying the price for what she has done to him. She cannot allow that.
Ms. Penumbra senses it all falling apart. She tries to negotiate, but she has nothing Suunto wants, and the transition team are closing in on her. If they get what is in her head, they will finish her. She tells Suunto that if they get the information in her head, they will know all about her and what she has done. Suunto tells her that is unlikely. There will be nothing left of her to transition - she knows about dementia - they way it can send you back time and time again to the past. Suunto sings a tune from a musical, and Ms. Penumbra feels a sharp pain in her mind. It triggers an dementia episode, and she falls back to a memory of Emmet. They are young and swimming in a rainforest pool. The sun shines and she is very much in love.
Suunto’s team has to set up the mind bomb for her. They need to rig it then. Variel has also confessed to Suunto much earlier and helped to prepare her mind for Suunto. Ruthless goes both ways. When dealing with a snake, make sure you have antivenom.
Did she lose her memory? Then have it returned? How did msP react?

what if…
Ms Penumbra has a moment of realisation and she realises she has been a fool? What happens if she realises that her entire life has been in pursuit of something that she could never maintain? What will she do then? Is it too late for her to redeem herself? Maybe this is a better path. Emmet is furious and ridicules her, and she lashes out at him. He tries to return, but is sucked away by The Abstract, who has been wanting him forever. Her actions has unwilingly killed her lover. She is left with Leon and tries to save the ImpVerse, but finds that she is unable to. It all falls on Leon’s shoulders to save it. She returns to The Real, knowing that if she does, she will have to face up to Rankin, bleeding to death on the floor. She deeply regrets that, and then decides she will try and save him if she returns. Leon does his thing, all alone, knowing that no-one will know of his sacrifice, until Suunto arrives. Ms. P returns, but it is too late for her. She feels a dementia moment come on and a vengeful Suunto says she has to do something about her. She understands that it is a reckoning for all that she has done. OR She fights Leon and is dragged back to The Real on the verge of winning. She has torn Leon apart with her rage. She has bore it into his life like a mind cancer, drawing on all the horrible memories of his past to cripple him. He regains his ground for focusing on some treasured memories and starts to rebuild. She senses she is starting to lose ground and is dragged back to The Real. She arrives at The Real, a portable transition device being positioned on her head. She is terrified and tries to fire her mind bomb, but it does not work. Suunto arrives in her memory pocket. She tells her that there was to be a reckoning for what she did to Leon. Leon is under her protection. She tells her she is not getting back her memories when she transitions. She is not even transitioning. She is a disease that needs to die. She, like Suunto, is part of a dead world. Old things need to be able to die off. She needs to die off. Ms. Penumbra’s stress is heightened. She feels her dementia coming on. She has her greatest fear - she has lost control. She thinks of Emmet and all she could have been with him, or even without him. If only she had been able to accept she was not in control and could never recover what she has lost. She loses her thoughts as a dementia memory kicks in. Ms. Penubmra sings her a song as she is closed out, and a mind bomb fires, isolating her in her dementia memory, forever.
OR Emmet dies by her hand, moment of realisation that she does not need him. It has always been about control. She is unable to fix the fabric. Calls on Leon - he has the dilemma to help her fix it an poison the ImpVerse, or do it himself and save everyone. He tells her he will do it himself, without her. She wont accept that. Control of a billion souls is better than anything. She wants that instead. She tries and the thread pulls away from her. She is enraged and decides to bring it all down instead. She goes and Leon steps in. She returns and finds herself in a pickle.
Ms. Penumbra A moment of realisation means she is redeemable, only to fall to her gruesome end. Then she deserves to get what she wanted - trapped in the memory of Emmet that brings her such joy. Who brings about her end? The transition team catching up with her? Or Suunto getting revenge for her treatment of Leon all those years? I made a promise to his mother many years ago that I would always look out for him.
The Battle
Emmet and Ms. Penumbra moment
- he doesnt remember her and a few other things. She reacts angrily. All she has done for him and he treats her like nothing. The power she weilds and the things she has done, and he treats her with disrespect. This is not the man from her memory. This is another person thinking they can walk over her. She knows how to squash a bug. She rages at him, her poison seeping from him. It connects with him and he starts to burn. Leon tries to help, but the rage burns him too, but it throws him back and consumes Emmet. It detaches from her and folds into him. He struggles and she screams at him, projecting him through the doorway. He barrels away, past the fabric that reaches for him and is burnt by the rage it finds, and he is lost, a flame against the darkness.
- She realises what she has done - destroyed the ImpVerse. It was not meant to be that way. He was meant to welcome him with open arms. And she has destroyed him.
Emmet and Ms Penumbra - OPTION ONE He greets her with love. He remembers her and is overjoyed, but he realises how stained she is and what she has done in his name. He cannot handle that. He loves the woman he used to be, not the woman she has become. She tells him she can be that girl again, but she knows deep down she cannot. He tells her she has wasted her life in pursuit of something she cannot regain. She does not know how to feel. She knows he is right. She has always known it. She has a moment of deep reflection. She has told herself it has all been about Emmet, but in reality, it has been about getting revenge on the company that thought they could take something from her and expect her to be ok about it. She knows there is no going back. There was never the chance. She wanted him back because they told her he could not come back. No-one tells her she cannot have something. She always goes further, harder, more completely. She sits with her realisation. How can she repair what she has done? She can’t. All she can do is try and return things to the way they were. Maybe. It doesn’t seem like her. She wouldnt go like a lamb. She would rage and it would be glorious. She decides to embrace the moment and tell him he is right. There is never any going back to the way things used to be. She would not want to be that useless girl she used to be. She is so much more than that now. She has built a repuation that creates fear in those that hear her name. She has so much power, and will maintain that. And if she wishes it, she will control Emmet as well, and have him there to remind herself what a fool she used to be. She does love him. How could she not? He was everything to her, and maybe she will revisit those memories from time to time in the ImpVerse, her ImpVerse, just to remind herself what a pathetic creature she used to be. Just to feel the hurt of it all and remind herself what she has become. She is so much more than what she used to be, and she has built it all. There is so much more to her than that pathetic girl she used to be.
What does Emmet do?
- belittle her? Tejjl her she is stained and that he could not love someone like her. He has seen the stain of people like her on the ImpVerse. They are a plague on humanity. He has seen her through their memories. He knows her more than she knows herself. How could he ever have loved her? Or even entertained that thought?
- Does not remember her. Has seen her through other people’s experiences of her. She is a stain on humanity. - ouch!
- Tell her that he never loved her the way she loved him. She always held on too tight. She never was able to let go, no matter what he said.
- show compassion, but tells her there is no going back?
- sheds part of himself so she can be with him?
- he does not remember her? He is so old that she is faded away?
- has his mind gone? is he a madman who has been forced to watch humanity for an eternity? alone? Is he the mindless observer of life, like someone looking at screen.
- Has he lost all sense of himself? He has lived, watching the lives of others that he has lost all sense of who he is through his observation and disconnection?
- Does he know humanity so intimately now that he loves them?
- Does he struggle with not being able to see into their minds and memories as he is able to do as being part of the fabric?
- Does he not realise that he can speak, and communicate to them? He has been so alone and unable to communicate. Does communicating come back to him as an impulse? Like riding a bike?
- It is best for her Emmet to have moved on, long ago.
How does she react?
- realisation he is right. It has always been about showing ImpCorp that no-one crosses her?
- disbelief that he would do this to her after all she has done. She kills him, realising she has wasted her life.
- he has changed so much that there is no going back to being the person he was. She does not see the person he used to be.
- he belittles her, makes false of her love for him, and she gets angry, kills him.
- She has a moment of redemption after realing that it has all been a waste. She tries to help, but cannot undo what she has done. She returns to be transitioned, but has a dementia moment as her mind bomb goes off, trapping her forever.
THIS IS THE WAY SHE SHOULD GO OUT - But is Suunto involved here? Still tweaking, but she needs to stand tall and defy them. She needs to go out paying homage to that strength and determination she has. She will only die on her terms. She rejects the ImpVerse, and her wasted life. She will not allow ImpCorp to control her. She will go the way she wants to go. She will return to that moment and wipe away everything she has built in spite of them. They do not get to have all her accomplishments. They can flounder without her. She increases the capacity of her mind bomb to encompass everything that is not Emmet. All of her life, her secrets. They do not get any of it. But they need to know why. She dials in the mind bomb to remove everything from her time in ImpCorp until just before Emmet was taken from The Real. They can see how it used to be. They can see the reason why.
She feels a moment coming on. They need to wait. They need to stop. She tries to tell them they need to wait, but they do not. They never do. She tries to hold it back. If she transitions when it hits her, she will forget everything. She will no longer be her. She will return to that pathetic girl she used to be, with that traitorous bastard, Emmet. But she can feel the water on her toes, the hum of the waterfall. It is beautiful. She is so much in love. She tries to remember the phrase to set off her mind bomb, before it strikes her. She falls into it and transitions. She will live that loop forever. In a way, she gets what she wants.
The past ends up defeating her, but she also gets rewarded for her determination and gets to return to the past, just not in the way she wanted, but loses everything that she has become, effectively wiping away all of her sins with her memory. Live in the past, stay in the past is the theme for her… I think it works. There is a standoff between ImpCorp and herself. They want to know what she has done. She will not tell them. She will negotiate with them. They say they will just take it on transition, but she does not allow that to take place. SHe will be in control of everything. Does Suunto take everything instead? Suunto becomes the new keeper of her secrets?
