Inbox - ideas, remembering. Curate - developing inbox
Structure needs more work. To many folders. Concentrate on workflow.
Only write down what you care to remember. Copy/paste is cheap and useless.
Back links connect the note to the ideas it relates to. Have more than one of required. So and think about the links to ensure they are related. That is the power.
Back links lead to other notes and their back links, to create new thought and connect thoughts.
Obsidian
Obsidian creates backlinks to link notes forward and back. Use them to link related ideas. (Central + click) you can do so with phrases that become new linked notes, that then link to other notes.
Linked mentions backlink and toward links. Linking creates your graph view. The links enable you to find things through soft searches, so they are important. Have multiple links if you need to.
The links create a map of your thoughts and related thoughts that can be accessed through specific and fuzzy searches.
Your notes are your specific thoughts and the text elements.
Use reference notes like and index to unify links.
They can also just be mentioned in the text through the note title?
Link through tags as well to assist searches.
One idea per note. Break up larger notes and link them around their idea.
Note Process - Interact, takes notes and have thoughts, revise and make good.
Zettelkasten Method
- One idea per note
- Zettelkasten identifiers on each note.
- Each note should be connected through zettels.
- Zettels and tag enable your mind to see connections.
- Notes should be in own thought.
Literature Notes - The note itself should be as short as possible. - Don’t quote from the book itself, use your own ideas and words. - Metadata is very important. Add author, url, tags as a minimu
Reference Notes - Used to grouping up information, notes and ideas. - A Zettels note containing all the links, unifying the information is a reference note.
Permanent Notes - Storing the informatiom in you system - Only contains your words or thoughts. - Ideas and information worth keeping, linked to a reference note.
Fleeting Notes - ideas jotted down: messy and brief. - they are only reminders of ideas. - they can be discarded it made into permanent notes.
From a different source:
Project Notes
- From a different source.
- Kept in a folder under a project name
- Put everything pertaining to that project in the folder
Slip Box
- Stores all permanent slip Box notes
Inbox - desk inbox tray Reference Folder - filing cabinet Slip Box - drawer Project folders - folder in drawer
Process: Create a daily note Move it to the inbox folder for processing after a day or so. After it has been developed into a permanent note, or disregarded, move it back to the daily notes and archive.
Permanent Notes
- Identify what’s relevant to your own research, interest, or thinking
- Elaborate on the idea until it’s understood without its prior context
- Connect (link) it to existing permanent notes in the slip-box using a Zettel. And tags (my addition)
- Aim to have them between 180 and 500 words. Be concise and accurate.
- Add the Zettelkasten ID and the note name, instead of a few key words.
- Use tags for the key search terms.

Index Notes (reference notes?)
The note links act as a reminder of your thought process and helps you stumble upon linked ideas.
Jonny Decimal
https://johnnydecimal.com/concepts/ids/
Use decimals in front of folder names to create order. Break into 10 bread areas: 10-19, 20-21, etc… Then break those areas into further pairs of digits for refined categories as folders: 10.30 character notes. Then file under the appropriate folder heading and decimal place, ensuring you include the decimal reference in the note title.

Evergreen and Atomic Notes
Notes become trees, linked?
visual notes
Consider creating drawings for ideas, free hand then importing the notes visually. Flesh it out using atomic notes.
